I just read a review stating these don't work and I frankly don't understand the reviewers experience, so wanted to share my experience.It is stated that this solar panel does not recharge the batteries - *in the camera* - this is absolutely correct. It is also stated that it is only a - supplemental - power supply. Again, correct - but I'm not sure exactly what the reviewer is asserting regarding it only being a supplemental power supply.In my case, in concert with Browning Patriot trail cameras (5 cameras, each with its own solar pack) the cameras have their own internal batteries installed and are also connected to this external solar pack. In this configuration the cameras draw power from the supplemental solar packs for operation and essentially never draw from the internal batteries. I have not even tried to operate the camera without the internal (non-rechargeable) batteries, but assume that would not work. A similar setup I ran for years with different cameras and external 12V sealed lead acid batteries would not work with only the external battery attached so I have never even tried this with the Brownings.But make absolutely no mistake. Operating and installed properly (neither of which is a guarantee because equipment can be faulty and operators can make mistakes) this configuration will make battery changes essentially unnecessary. In my situation, I have my 5 cameras setup in this camera's "timelapse+" mode with 10 second frame rate and set to run "all day." This means it takes a single frame every 10 seconds from approximately Civil Twilight in the morning through Civil Twilight in the evening. Additionally, because it is in "+" mode the motion sensor is active and it takes additional images whenever something triggers the motion sensor, day or night - and at night this means it also illuminates the scene with the no-glow LED lights. I do not know that this is the highest power demand configuration for this camera, but it demands a lot of power to be sure. I typically have 60GB - 100GB of timelapse data on each SD card each weekend when I change the cards and additionally typically have dozens of images of animals that trigger the cameras at night. And I have never changed an internal battery.I doubt many people have applications as demanding as upwards of 100GB of data per week. Yet this "supplemental" power supply powers the camera seamlessly. I had five different cameras set up as suggested above, and started replacing those cameras with these Browning Patriots one camera at a time, every few weeks, in January of this year. I just replaced the last of the five a few weeks ago. And, as I say, I have never replaced an internal battery.Batteries do die over time - even if never used - and the rechargeables have an effective number of recharge cycles. So I suspect I'll be changing the internal batteries about once every two years and perhaps similar for the rechargeables. When I actually start seeing the need for that I'll try to remember to update this review with the information at that time. Today is 20 July 2021 (52 years after the Eagle landed).An earlier reviewer did also ding Browning for showing Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries in their publicity materials but sending generic rechargeables with the solar pack - that is true and it is a fair ding - but the generics have worked fine for me so far.If I haven't made it clear - I highly recommend these solar packs if you are looking for the experience I have described. Set your camera up with internal batteries + this solar pack in an area where it can get light and you will have to replace your batteries only when age gets to them - not because the camera has drained them. This solar pack can provide plenty of energy for even very demanding requirements like I describe above.***** 29 September 2024 Update *****These have behaved exactly as described above. I am starting to run into issues where a couple of solar panels, in the extended very overcast/dark conditions we've been experiencing in the Northern Virginia the last few weeks are not able to sustain the cameras all day, all week, between card swaps. So I have ordered replacement NiMH replacements. I am assuming these are going to put me back where I was with the initial review in mid-2021 - so batteries lasted about 3+ years or about 1000 recharge cycles - standard for this size NiMH. If I don't update this review soon that is what happened. If I do have further issues I'll update this review with more information.
