Leonel Power is the real beginning of greatness in the aesthetics of British music. From the end of the 14th century till John Sheppard in the first quarter of the 16th, Power's masses and motets establish the gold standard of beauty in British music (and no, I haven't forgotten John Dunstaple; based purely on aesthetics, I submit Power trumps JD).
