"Power Trip" is a bit primitive relative to the latest documentaries, but it highlights the local people's perspectives. At least for me, it helped explain why many saw AES as hostile, and why the company's return projections were unlikely from the get-go.What cannot happen will not happen, regardless of fancy contracts. The locals—earning less than $50 per month—simply could not afford modern infrastructure. How AES thought they could squeeze $25 or so out of each household, I am not sure. This is particularly relevant for people with an interest in emerging-economy investment, albeit a sobering tale.
